Singapore Home Gym Undergoes Renovation Part III: Building the Power Cage Stage 2

Hi guys,

So we have previously posted about the different boxes of the power rack and lat attachment.
In this post, we will continue setting up our power rack.

The instructions for setting up the power rack were given very clearly in the instruction manual. Step by step, bolt by bolt everything is in there.

We starts with the base of the power rack.

The base is one of the heaviest pieces in there, well of course, you got to have a heavy base for stability. It would be good if you can get some help from a friend to carry these stuff. ( Though I did all these alone, haha).

Position the base with the "opened" side as the front. Make sure you leave at least 60cm of space in front of the power rack base for doing exercises such as deadlifts outside the power rack.

After positioning the base, it's time to put up the four vertical stands for the power rack.

The four stands have to inserted to the correct side of the power rack base, the numbering on the vertical stands should be facing the inner of the power rack. Again, this is clearly stated in the instruction manual.

The vertical stands are to be secured to the base by the screws and bolts provided.

After assembling the vertical stands, the safety bars are to be inserted onto the power rack.

Insert each side through the top of the vertical stands. Both safety bars are similar. Do note that one of the safety bar has two holes for the dips attachment. Therefore, decide which side of the power rack will you be doing dips exercise. You can choose to do the dips exercise inside the power rack or outside. If you are doing the dips outside the power rack, remember to put the safety bar for dips attachment on the side which have sufficient space for dips exercise to be done.

In the next post, we will be putting up the "top" piece of the power rack. this is a little tricky. Stay tune!

Singapore Home Gym Undergoes Renovation Part III: Building the Power Cage Stage 1

Hi Guys,

So here we go!
The start of our 5 hours Power Cage (Power Rack) assembly process!
We started off at around 9pm and finish assembling the Power Cage with the lat attachment at 2am!

The assembling of the power cage starts off with putting the main structure which is the cage is itself together.
Let the pictures do the talking.

The largest box contains the top and base of the Power Cage, it also contains some other little stuff of the Power Cage.

Opening the box...

The two smaller boxes within actually contains the Chin up bar that is to be attached to the Power Cage and the barbell position holders.

The Power Cage cannot do without its vertical support.
The long boxes contains the vertical support which is around 2 to 2.2m long.

All these came with an instruction sheet telling you what is inside the boxes and how the Power Cage is to be assembled.

And of course, the screws and bolts!

Everything is nicely labelled. The instructions in the manual were all clear, telling you clearly which screw to use, what size to use, which bolt to go with which screw etc.

In our next post, we were be posting more pictures on the setting up of the Power Cage, Stay tune!

Singapore Home Gym Undergoes Renovation Part III: The "Power" Home Gym Set-up

Hi guys,

As you can see from our previous posts, our home gym renovation has gone through various types of arrangement and design. In order to prepare our home gym for our biggest piece of equipment ever, we decided to replace our floor mats, give things a little new paint and looking at the overall feel of our home gym by matching the colours of the home gym equipments and accessories.

Are You Ready to Rumble?????!!!!!!

We mean are you ready for our third home gym set up, this will include the step by step guide to setting up your Power Cage!!!

The colours of the walls in our home gym is light green and white. So to match this, we decided to change our floor mats to blue, instead of yellow which we have been using for many years. These EVA mats are really durable!!!

3 packs of 4 Eva mats. This will allow us to cover a home gym space area of 2.4m by 1.8m.

As mentioned earlier, we are setting up a Power Cage into our new Home Gym. And the packaging of the Power Cage were just huge by itself.

A total of 4 boxes for the Power Cage and the Lats Tower Attachment. We also got a new 1.8m barbell for use in the Power Cage. A 2.2m barbell would be too long for use in the home gym, therefore we got the 1.8m barbell instead.

And so it's time to set up the floor mats.

The matching blue floor mats to the wall.

As you can see, we have shifted our home gym entirely to one side of the room. So its one side for the Home gym, one side for the bedroom.

In the next post, we will begin with the setting up of the Power Cage. Step by step, Screw by screw, bolt by bolt. It took us a total of 5 Hours for the whole Home gym to be set up.

Singapore Home Gym Undergoes Renovation Part II: Assembling the new weight bench

Hi guys,

We got a new weight bench for our home gym, a little upgrade as the new weight bench is of commercial grade.

And so.........Singapore Home Gym always enjoy setting up home gyms, shifting the furniture here and there and of course, we always opt for self assembly for all our fitness gym equipments. And of course other than enjoying the assembling process, very important point to note is that it is usually cheaper if you opt for self assembly instead of "Installation Provided" service.

So here we go, this post will take you through the process of assembling the new weight bench.

The weight bench came as the main bench on its own, wrapped up and the preacher curls and leg attachment separately.

The main weight bench is already ready for use, however the preacher curls and legs attachments need abit of effort to assemble it. With the tool box, we are ready to go.....

The preacher curls and leg extension attachment are two very useful attachment for the weight bench. It allows you to perform more variety of exercises like Bicep curls, leg extension and leg curls.

The Preacher curl attachment can be directly attached to the weight bench for use.

Looking from the back.....

The assembling of the weight bench is a fairly simple job, and its allows you to save the installation fee, so why not?

Not forgetting the weight bench that we have used for years in our home gym, here's a comaprision between the two.

The main difference between the two weight bench is that the new weight bench does not have the barbell support. And yes, the barbell support is a very important feature of the weight bench. But of course, by getting a new weight bench without the barbell support, we need to couple it with either a squat rack or a power cage for use to perform exercises such as barbell bench press. By reading our previous posts and this post, one can compare and consider of which type of weight bench to get.

Singapore Home Gym's recommendation is, if you have the space and budget, and you are getting a power cage or squat rack, get the weight bench without barbell support. However, if you have a budget and do not have a large space area for your home gym, get the weight bench with barbell support. The weight bench with barbell support allows you to perform barbell bench press without the need to purchase other rakcs or power cages. Therefore, when setting up a home gym, it is very important to decide how much space you have, what are the equipments you will be getting and your budget for the home gym.

We will be posting a review of the weight bench in our future post. So Stay tune!!!

Singapore Home Gym Undergoes Renovation Part II: Exploring yet another new space

Trying to create the "feel" that we would like our entire room to have, we decided to explore new arrangement of furniture in our room. This also means a new space area for our home gym, a new arrangement for the fitness home gym equipment.

We shifted all the furniture to one side of the room, leaving the other side solely for us to build our home gym.

After deciding on the new space area for our home gym, its time for the cleaning up again. It's very important to vacuum or sweep the floor clean before putting the mats on the floor. Once you place those heavy home gym equipment on the floor mats, it will be very hard to remove them to clean the floor before.

We now have a larger space area for our home gym. A total of 2.1m by 2.7m of space area.
This is a much larger space area as compared to our previous home gym arrangement. This will allow us more space to work out, and also allow us to get the "feel" we wanted the room to have.

As some of you may have spotted, we changed our weight bench or gym bench as some may call it. In the next post, we will be "showing off" our new bench, from the assembly of the weight bench to getting it and using it in our home gym.

GANGNAM STYLE Home Gym

Gangnam Style Home Gym?

Of cos not!!!

But a catchy song to listen to while working out in your home gym!!!

Singapore Home Gym undergoes Renovation: A look at the "First" New Home Gym

So we have now rearranged our home gym, this is just the FIRST new arrangement, new look for our home gym. So lets take a look at the First new Home Gym.

We have made more space for the home gym by removing the study table. We shifted the biggest piece of equipment, the Chin-up/Dips station into the new space/corner of the room. This leaves more space for the rest of the equipments.

We have the mats down on the ground for a good protection against the dropping of weights and scratches.
We have shifted all other equipments into the home gym which includes the weight bench, squat stands, weight tree, dumbells, barbell and weight plates.

Lets take a look at the overall First New Home Gym.

Racking the weight plates onto the weight tree.

The new space new Home Gym gave us more space to work out.

Wait a minute, you think this is our final Home Gym layout?

Singapore Home Gym undergoes Renovation: The First New Space

After keeping away all the stuff, we are now ready with our new space!!!
A bigger space area for our home gym!!!
The removal of the study table certaintly made alot of free space for our home gym.
In addition, for the first new space, we have a little corner for our Chin up/ Dips station.

Do note that this is the FIRST new space ( Little suprirses coming up in future posts).

The following pictures will do the talking.
Lets take a look at the new space area for our home gym.

We have shifted the bed all the way to where the study table is supposed to be at. Thereby freeing up the area at the other side of the room.

We mentioned that we now have a little corner for the Chin up/Dips station.

We shifted the Chin up/Dips station into the little corner beside the big cupboard. This little corner certaintly makes it just nice to slot in the Chin up/Dips station. With this, we still have a big space area for the rest of the equipments.

And now it's time to shift in the rest of the equipments. But before doing so, do remember to lay the mats for the floor. Floor proteciton!!!

Stay tune for our future posts!!!

In the next post, we will be posting pictures of our final home gym pictures of our first round of Singapore Home Gym undergoes renovation!!!!

Singapore Home Gym undergoes Renovation: Hiding Things........

When you got too many things and too little space, what you can do is to put those things out of sight but still within the room. these storage space can come in the form of cupboards, cabinet and drawers etc. But cupboard takes up space too and there's a limited capacity to it. So what other places can you store the items?

The answer is, under the bed!!!!

See that huge amount of space under the bed?
this storage area may just be used to store air if you do not make good use of it. However, do remember that the items stored under the bed wont be easy to retrieve. Therefore, the space under the bed is good for storing items that you do not use, but cant bear to throw them away.

Of course, cleaning up whats struck under the bed before putting things in is very important.

After cleaning up its time to decide whats going in. We are storing our old weight bench, old magazines and some other stuff that we do not usually use all under the bed. Arrange them nicely, fit as many stuff as you can in there, whatever space is there, use it!!! Even if you do not use it, your bed is still taking up the same amount of space in your room.

That's how you fit everything you can under the bed.

Stay tune for future posts as we move into the other stages of "Singapore Home Gym undergoes Renovation".

Singapore Home Gym undergoes Renovation: Creating the extra space!!!!

Hi Guys,

We are back with a new series of posts, "Singapore Home Gym undergoes Renovation". Well, new equipments are coming in, BIG and small. We are adding in new equipments to our home gym, changing some of the items and bringing in a big piece of equipment!!!

Its really big!!!

Therefore, there is a need for us to create my space for that additional equipments.
Very importantly, we want our home gym to look neat with all the equipments being placed in the room.
We want the home gym to look as much as possible like a commercial gym with all the essential equipments that we need for our workouts.

Kicking off this series, we are creating more space within the room.

This is how our gym before renovation looks like.

In order to make more space for new equipments, we are removing the study table which is at the other side of the room.
Cleaning up and arranging of the furnitures is no easy task, haha.

After removing the study table, its time to clean up all the dirt and dust that has accumulated over the years!!!! Removing of the study table certainly freed up quite abit of space.

This reaaranging will make up space for our incomng new equipments. But!!! There is more ways that we can make up more space!!!!!

In our next post, we will show you how you can free up nmore space for your home gym!!!
